Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium

Background

The Pupil Premium is an allocation of additional funding provided to schools to support specific groups of children who are vulnerable to possible underachievement. These include pupils who are entitled to free school meals; those looked after by the local authority and the children of armed service personnel. It also includes pupils who have been adopted from care or have left care. Schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium as they see fit.  However, we will be held accountable for how we have used the additional funding to support pupils from low-income families.  From September 2012, we are required to publish online information about how we have used the Premium.  This will ensure that parents and others are made fully aware of the attainment of pupils covered by the Premium and the extra support that they receive.

Why has it been introduced?

Pupil premium is funding to improve education outcomes for disadvantaged pupils in schools in England. Evidence shows that disadvantaged children generally face additional challenges in reaching their potential at school and often do not perform as well as other pupils. The Government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) and their wealthier peers by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most.

We review the impact of our Pupil Premium funding annually, we use assessment data to measure the impact of our funding. Our next Pupil Premium strategy review will be in December 2025.

We had a total of 39 children eligible for PPG funding in 2021-22. For 2022-23, we had 53 children eligible for PPG funding. For 2023-24, we had 45 children eligible for PPG funding. For 2024-25, we have 42 children eligible for PPG funding.
